Gleason bust from "The Toy"

Would welcome feedback and suggestions on this. I used to work in film (many years ago!) and was given from producer Ray Stark a classic bust of Jackie Gleason that was created by the studio for the film "The Toy". (Richard Donner director and Marvin March set designer). It's a 3-foot, faux marble bust of Gleason as the corporate tycoon U.S. Bates. It was made for the scenes in Bates's office -- though I'm not sure if it ever made the final cut. (Haven't seen the film in a few years, but don't remember seeing it when it was released, as I had the bust shortly after they finished shooting.)

It's quite striking and commanding, very well constructed, and clearly designed by a professional studio artist. Really captures Gleason, complete with the carnation buttonniere. It's graced my office for many years, but I'm preparing to move soon and want it to find a permanent home.

My question is -- is there a Jackie Gleason "museum" or non-profit archive I can donate this too? If not, I guess I'll place it for sale on E-Bay or elsewhere, if someone can give me some guidance as to its value.

Any and all suggestions and feedback welcomed.

Thanks,
Laurence Jahns

Jackie and the Oboe

Robert Bloom, the first oboist with Toscanini and the NBC Symphony, and later on the leading session oboist in New York City always spoke fondly of a session(s) he did with Gleason's orchestra and some notable jazz men--I am imagining he meant Bobby Hackett. Bloom's widow, Sara, would love to have the recording(s) if we can locate the title(s). Most often oboe solos were played by sax-doublers liked Phil Bodner or Romeo Penque, who were rarely credited, but, in this singular case, Jackie may have credited the distinguished classical musician. Can anyone identify the recordings on which Bloom played?

Help Finding a copy of 1966 Episode

I was very happy to find this site and I am hoping somebody can help me find where i could purchase a very precise Jackie Gleason show episode. My father was in the Glenn Miller Band which was lead by Buddy Defrance in 1966 and was on the show. He was been looking forever to find a copy of the performance but can't. I was able to find this link that looks to be the correct episode but when I click to buy it it goes to Amazon site and I have the options to buy the color honeymooners. Is that correct?

Here is the info I have on it
The Jackie Gleason Show: Season 1, Episode 10
Episode #1.10 (26 Nov. 1966)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0614014/

Any help would be greatly appreciated

This is from a home movie of my familys from 1962 or 1963 at the latest. My mother claims that the slow-motion, little dance with the golf club which my grandfather (the guy in blue) does was based off of something Jackie did. Anyone know for sure?

My Fondest memories of Jackie Gleason

My parents bought a house at the Country Club of Miami on Winged foot Drive back in 1966. My best friends in the neighborhood at the time were Gene Garbers family of 8 children who lived on the lake as we did (he was a pilot for National Airlines and used to keep his bi-plane across the street), Chris Bing, George Obenhour (sp) and John Philban, whose father was the producer of the Honeymooners.

Gleason was enticed by the club to move his 'Honeymooners show to Miami and the neighborhood. They accomplished this by giving him 3 lots on the 18th green of the golf course. In addition, he also built a rehearsal studio on the way into the neighborhood so they could rehearse the show from Miami which I think started in 1967. John Philban, was Gleason Godson and we were all good friends.

I remember when Jackie's house was finished, we all used to go up there after school to his clubhouse and play the pinball machine and shoot pool. Jackie always came by to say hello to us and teach us some pool shots. I remember the 'Royals Royce' golf cart he had; complete with tassels, wet bar, and a black and white TV installed in it. He always treated us well and for Halloween, his girlfriend Marylyn used to give us a roll of quarters instead of candy. A lot of great memories during that time of him. I will always remember him as a good and decent man.

The first time I ever played golf was with him, Bing Crosby, Jack Philban, and one other person whom I cant remember. We kids got to play behind their foursome that day. To this day I still play golf; thanks to him, and have a picture of him and Arnold Palmer hanging in my office from Shawnee Country Club in New York, back in 1966.

During Christmas, Gleason always sent everyone in the neighborhood a Red Velvet card with gold inlays on it with the title "And away we Go'! Merry Christmas from Jackie Gleason. I still have it and its dated Dec 1967.

If you ever watched his shows in Miami, hed always come out at the end of the show, take a sip of his coffe and say, 'My that awful good stuff.' It wasn't coffee folks, It was normally scotch!

Thanks Mr. Gleason for all of the childhood memories! Your work on the Honeymooners, other memorable movies including, Smoky and the Bandit will forever be enjoyed!. My family still gathers once or twice a year to watch your performance in that film not to mention all of the original B&W Honeymooners episodes which we still watch today. God Bless!

Footnote: In 1976 I was stationed at Norton AFB in San Bernardino, California. Each year Bing Crosby and Bob Hope put on a charity golf tournament event. The building I was work at was on a dogleg left over the laboratory. We occasionally had ball sailing thru the lab breaking glassware by a lot of golfers trying to take the short cut over the building.

One day, I was cutting the grass and a ball hit me. I picked it up and swore that the golfer who hit it was not going to get it back. Now, here comes Bing Crosby asking me if Id seen his ball. I gave it back to him and low and behold he said, Son, you look familiar to me'. 'Have I ever met you before? And When I told him about playing with him in Miami back in 1967, he remembered. He even invited me to lunch that day. Ill never forget it!

I looked it up. And sure enough he and I have the same birthday.
But he died when I was conceived.

It's crazy but it's true. I was Jackie Gleason.
We look similar also.

I always wondered why I am the funniest person I know. Lol

I am also searchng for these Honeymooners epiisodes

I don't know what the title of these episodes are, but this thread here should give a lot of detail.

http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/...d.php?t=293234

One episode has Art Carney peeling an orange due to something gone wrong onstage. (Jackie [as Ralph] had walked into the "Kramden bedroom." Since he was taking more time than usual, Audrey [as Alice] went into the "Kramden bedroom" to look for Gleason. Art seeing something was wrong, padded for time by peeling an orange for two minutes before the other two returned to the stage.)

Someone on that thread said that they saw that scene from a special or an episode when the Lost Episodes were introduced [even though the Lost Episode DVD Box Set doesn't have this even though it says: "Most Complete Collection possible."]

Another one is when Alice is in the kitchen, Art tries to go through the door but the door is stuck. Audrey even though noticing that something is wrong, does nothing. Finally, Art enters through the kitchen window and says: "There is more than one way to skin a cat." The door knocks. Alice goes to answer it. Art says: "Good luck." The crowd laughs because they noticed that the door was stuck. Alice than opens the door which by that time was fixed.

On a Honeymooners special in 2002, Mike Douglas [talk show host] says he saw this episode when it first aired and he was glad they didn't change it [meaning it could have been remade later on?]. This scene much like the other one is not on the DVD Box set but it might have aired on a Honeymooners special in the mid 80s.

Does anyone have what I am talking about?

In desparate need of the short Color Honeymooners sketches:

All of these episodes are short sketches that were part of Jackie Gleason's variety show entitled: The Jackie Gleason Show. Here are the episodes:

- "Six Months To Live": Ralph mistakenly believes he is dying. (No other story information available other than it was a short sketch along with two other skits in a variety show format.)
- Alices Birthday: This year Alice is determined to receive a birthday gift from chronically forgetful Ralph even if she has to buy it herself, which she does. But she's not home when the present is delivered and Ralph, who signs for it, is sure she has a mysterious suitor.
- Lawsuit: Against Alice's advice, Ralph, who has broken his leg in a bus accident, is suing the Gotham Bus Company for $75,000. The lawyer thinks he has a good case until he learns that Ralph was driving the bus when the accident occurred.
- Hot Tip: Ralph sets out to satisfy a gambling urge. (A sketch from a variety show format of the Gleason Show.)
New Bowling Ball: Ralph gets his finger caught in his bowling ball and he is having a very difficult time getting it out.
- Norton Moves In: Norton moves in with the Kramdens because his apartment smells of paint . . . until Ralph, who is going crazy from sharing a cot with Norton, throws paint all over his own place to drive Norton out.
The New Manager: Ralph thinks he's appointed manager of the bus company. (A sketch from a variety show format of the Gleason show.)
The Incredible World of Ed Norton": An underground view of that popular sewer worker's life. (A sketch presented among many others in the hour of the show.) (To be fair, I don't even know if this episode even aired. The story is that this sketch was a pilot for a spin-off and it was such a disaster that it never aired. But one website says that the episode did air during Feb. 1970.)

Scotch Pipers - Episode 34 or 33, May 9th, 1953

Hello,

My Great Great Uncle performed on the Jackie Gleason playing bagpipes on May 9th, 1953. I am desperately trying to find that video clip. From what I can find it is either episode 33 or 34 and the other special guest was Mary Mayo. The skit was Manager of a baseball team but I believed they played at a different time during the same show. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Corporate Greed

I recently had my video removed from YouTube courtesy of Jackie Gleason Enterprises, LLC for copyright infringement.

Now I can completely understand if I were to upload clips of the Honeymooners but that was not the case. The video I had was less than 2 minutes long and was clearly a parody and stated so in the title and again in the description.

As provided for in Title 17 U.S.C. Section 107 of US Copyright Law I am allowed to make a parody using original copyrighted material with certain restrictions and conditions all of which were met. The video in question was transformative in nature and did not detract from the original work.

You were not losing any money in DVD sales by my little video being on YouTube and it really is sad that I get a strike against my YouTube account for a 50+ year old TV show. I would like to fight this but Im an everyday Joe and I don't have the money or resources to do so you win.

I try to make funny videos because I like to make people laugh, I don't make any money off of it, I just like to share my sense of humor with others. Jackie Gleason was a great man and I would like to think he would appreciate someone doing this sort of thing, but right now I can't help to think he would be dissappointed.

Poor Soul in Christmas-land

I am seeking cast/character information for the Jackie Gleason Show of 25 Dec 1954 in which the Poor Soul visited Christmas-land. Newspaper and TV Guide synopsis are very sparse on this episode but I do know that Art Carney, Audrey Meadows and I believe Joyce Randolph appeared as children's fairy-tale characters, such as a Fairy Princess, and the June Taylor Dancers performed a Toy Soldiers routine. I would like to learn what roles the actors portrayed (and any other supporting actors) in this production.
